Welcome to the Trans-cend Beauty Blog!

Hello and welcome to the brand new Trans-cend Beauty Blog and the re-launch/re-branding of our salon and web site! Trans-cend Beauty (formerly Trans Beauty Shop) is dedicated to providing professional hair removal and beauty services to our community. We provide quality electrolysis and waxing services to the trans community as well as our cisgender allies!

Our intention with this blog is to provide interesting information about the services we offer as well as beauty tips, videos, and more! We want to be your one stop shop for all of your hair removal and beauty needs.

To start us off, we’d like to take a moment to discuss what electrolysis is, how it works, and how it can help you obtain permanent hair removal – no more shaving or waxing!

What is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis is the process of removing hair follicles at the root using a small “zap” of heat delivered through an electric current. Basically, we insert a very tiny electrode into each hair, give it a little zap, and remove the hair. Once the root is dead and removed, the hair has no way of growing back – leaving only your smooth skin behind.

Is Electrolysis Permanent?

Unlike other “semi-permanent” methods of hair removal, such as laser removal, electrolysis does cause permanent hair removal. While it is not uncommon for thicker hairs to require a few treatments, it will absolutely lead to the permanent loss of the hair.

What Can I Expect During My Electrolysis Session?

You’ll enter the waiting room in our pleasant, clean salon office (conveniently located in the heart of Philadelphia’s Center City Gayborhood!), where you’ll meet with Isabella – our certified professional electrologist and owner operator. You’ll be lead to her office and asked to get comfortable laying down, and will have the location of your electrolysis needs cleaned.

Isabella will then begin the process. You’ll feel the electrode pressing into the hair follicle, followed by a little “zap” – this will feel like a very quick sting which dissipates almost immediately. The hair will then be pulled out with a tweezer, which is completely painless as the hair will simply slide out as it is no longer rooted in your skin. The process will continue with each hair until the session is over.

How Can I Prepare Myself for Electrolysis?

While there will always be a little bit of pain during sessions, that pain can be greatly minimized! Approximately 30-45 minutes before your session, take a normal dose of Advil. Also avoid drinking any caffeine too close to your session, as this can actually increase the amount of pain you feel during a session. Keep yourself well hydrated throughout the day, and be sure to eat a meal or small snack before your session in order to keep your blood sugar up.

Then just show up, relax, and let us do the rest!

If you have any comments, suggestions, or subjects you’d like us to talk about or go more in depth on, please feel free to contact us through the web site or our Facebook page at any time! We want this blog to be useful, educational, and entertaining for you and feedback is always appreciated!
